Garden Consultation
Sometimes, a couple of hours of focused advice is all you need to move a garden forward.
Garden consultations are $380 for up to two hours, with the time tailored to whatever would be most useful. We might explore planting ideas, horticultural and maintenance issues, talk through layout and materials, brainstorm possibilities for a new or existing garden, or review plans and ideas you already have.
The aim is to provide practical advice, fresh ideas and a clearer sense of direction. Consultations are advisory and collaborative, rather than a complete garden design service, and do not include formal plans or drawings.
The $380 fee applies to consultations within Melbourne and the Trentham–Daylesford area. A travel surcharge may apply to other locations, depending on distance and travel time.
Garden Design
A complete garden design service which includes consultation, site visits, drawings and plans. You can expect:
Brief on-site chat
I will drop around briefly to introduce myself, see the project and chat about what you’re after for the garden. Are you looking to create an appealing outlook from the house? A spot for entertaining? Or maybe you want to grow things to eat? After this initial discussion I can quote the job accurately and chat about how I can be involved.
Job proposition and quote
Prospective clients are emailed a document outlining my suggested way of working in full detail, as well as the fees involved. A 50% deposit is required to commence the design process.
First in-depth meeting
I use this time to really listen to my clients and understand their requirements for the garden in full detail. I aim for each garden to be unique and tailored precisely to each individual site as well as my clients’ preferences.
Design brief
After this meeting I’ll summarise everything we have spoken about into a design brief for you to approve or amend as necessary. This will be used as a checklist to ensure that we are on the right track with the design process.
Measure-up, site analysis and creation of plans
I’ll be onsite for an hour or two getting to know the conditions present in the garden; soil, sunlight, existing plants etc. I’ll also be looking to see how you are likely to move throughout the garden, interact and live with it. With this information gathered, I will then design the plans for your garden.
Presentation of initial plans and revisions
You will be given a full talk-through of the concept for the garden, together with to-scale drawings, suggested plants and materials etc. After receiving your feedback I will add more detail to the plans and revise if necessary. As part of my standard package there is an allowance for up to two revisions.
Construction and planting
I will link you with trusted landscapers or tradespeople as necessary and will be available to answer questions throughout the construction process. I can also provide a quote for plants at below retail rates if desired. It is usually essential that I am there at plant-placement and I will often personally join in with the planting.
